Delta spent $500 million more on their fuel bill this year

Delta is seeking shareholder and regulatory approval for its plan to acquire Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest in a stock-swap deal that would create the world's largest carrier by traffic.

NVDL: Thing is, it is no longer giant scale operations that will succeed or survive in the future. Mirosoft, Yahoo, you guys listening? It's the opposite. Smaller enterprises, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker. Remember that? Those that are physically fit, wiry, and can adapt quickly through an ability to use minimal resources, those with the potential to change to different technologies/resource streams quickly and easily. Giant Corporations will be around, but they will suffer massive body blows in the coming crisis. It will just take longer for giant scaled operations to die.

Delta swings to $1B loss, beats Wall Street view

ATLANTA - Delta Air Lines Inc. said Wednesday it swung to a hefty loss in the second quarter despite a strong increase in sales, pushing its red ink to more than $7 billion since the start of the year.

The results, hit by unprecedented fuel costs and a decline in the company's market value, still beat Wall Street estimates when one-time items are excluded.
